Because your friends value sharing in your day, and you know this.

  2. Because I love a good inn.

So that I can imagine what is going on through each of the hotel windows. Boy, that will keep me amused for hours.

  4. You're all wrong. He's in the USA so clearly he must have an addiction of some kind, requiring years of therapy and likely expensive drugs too. His addiction appears to be finding something to post, no matter what, then publicly berating himself for it.A sick, sick man. :p

It's not often that this happens, but in this case, I stand corrected.

  6. Insightful and revelatory comments! :up:This hotel is a a moderately ramshackle part of Columbia, South Carolina. Many parts of Columbia are ramshackle, but this part is charming.I've used this hotel off and on for years. There are better lodging deals to be had, but I always stay here due to so many places within walking distance. So many hotels are isolated and require firing up the truck and merging onto the Interstate to go anywhere. Some of the nearby "ramshackle charmingness":The Roamin' Catholic.A newsstand that had great comics, underground magazines, and light porn. It closed a few years ago. :(A tiny restaurant that was hemorrhaging money badly, run by an Italian woman with a heavy accent who loved to talk about Italy.A sandwich shop run by bizarre foreign man who is a blast to talk to every time. A free cookie if he likes you.The occasional Confederate flag twistin' in the wind.Bohemian coffee shops with trendy goodlooking people. Why stay anywhere else?

The feeling is mutual.I often refer to the opera folks in conversations at home. I have funny nicknames for some. πŸ˜€

Yeah, okay. I'm totally not self-conscious at all. I'm not gonna bite. :p

I trust that mine is best looking half-Jamaican on the planet! πŸ˜€

Simply known as Manpreet. Usually the nicks are simple in that they are a country name plus blog name to distinguish from local friends with the same name. So, with that, you'd be India Manpreet, but you are the only Manpreet I know, so just Manpreet will do. A reminder that we spotted your name in the deserts of New Mexico ( link ).–Harry is usually UK-Harry, or could sometimes be "that damned Harry Scriven." πŸ˜† It's meant with love.–Sharkfin.–Olympia Andrew, or bicycle Andrew.–Josh Phelps.–Chicago Carol. So, the nicks aren't as interesting as I'd alluded. The context of the conversation can be quite good, however. It truly is a global village. Last December Brian and I were commenting on how many "Merry Christmas" e-mails we got from Iran. πŸ˜†

Manpreet is fine, and I remember that picture from your 2009 burning man rip, am I right? The world truly is global village, now only if our politicians will stop trying to make us hate each other.

I'm told that it is sometimes possible to stand outside the main entrance and ask for a "miracle" (free ticket). FML.

  14. Yes, Burning Man was the trip. Maybe 2011? We're going again this year. If you were here, we'd say, "get in the truck."Well said on all.

Ha ha ha, that really would be a miracle.

    It's actually not that uncommon.

  17. My names are great! When I mention MyOpera friends to Gloria, and a few other people too, I always mention a blog post they've made. Dave's the guy who came home from work and got a beer from the fridge (remember posting that video?) and Andrew's the American pushbike rider. You're all World famous!

  18. Okay, fine. I'll play.I don't have many in-person acquaintances, let alone friends. I'm very private at work and rarely speak of things occurring outside of work. I only have one in-person friend. She is not terribly interested in things Internet that don't revolve around facebook, and texting her daughter. (She's really not as shallow as I'm making her sound.) ON the rare occasion that any of you do come up, I reference you as, "my online friend in the UK; North Carolina; Mexico. You all already know and follow each other, so it would be a bit absurd to reference you to each other in same way I do to my in-person friend.(Oh yeah, I forgot Dave likes it when I type, "Fine… Fine.")

You could probably snag one in Reno the weekend before as well.
